Easter Camp, RAF Benson
This was a four-day camp held at and around RAF Benson in
Oxfordshire. It was aimed at those cadets doing their Bronze Duke
Of Edinburgh Award and consisted of a two-day canoe expedition
down the River Thames, and a two-day cross-country expedition on
foot.
Longmoor Camp
This is an annual, week long fieldcraft camp held at Longmoor
Army Training Camp. Fieldcraft teaches cadets the essential skills
needed to effectively live in the field, with more of an emphasis
on military methods. On this camp the cadets are taught how to set
up a ‘harbour’ (tactical ‘campsite’), cooking and hygiene in the
field, basic map reading, first aid, basic communications,
camouflage and concealment, and patrolling. A visit to the Royal
Electrical & Mechanical Engineers is thrown in there too, and
the cadets get to fly in lots of military helicopters!
Duke Of Edinburgh Canoe Expedition
This expedition was intended as both a ‘practice’ and an
‘assessed’ expedition for the Duke Of Edinburgh Award at Bronze
level. This involved two nights camping and two days canoeing down
the River Thames from Reading to Maidenhead. A recent trip took us
along The Thames from Reading to Maidenhead where Flt Sgt Aoudia
and Corporal Khatiwadia successfully completed their Bronze
Award. Well done them!
Llanbedr Adventure Training Camp
Our most recent camp, held at the National Air Cadet Adventure
Training Centre at Llanbedr, Wales. Over the course of the week
cadets took part in activities that included canoeing, horse
riding, cycling, hill walking, climbing, abseiling, aerial ropes
course and rafting.
Middlesex Wing Canoe Training Days
These are single days spent on the River Thames, usually at
Walton Bridge, aimed at giving cadets and staff basic canoe
training up to the British Canoe Union (BCU) 1-Star Award level,
and preparing for the 2-Star Award. These are great days out,
often spent exploring up-stream for half the day then returning in
the afternoon, taking in the beauty and tranquillity the river has
to offer. These days are run, and will continue to be run on a
regular basis. So far there have been around 8 days run since
February.
